We, the members of the Kohima Region of the Society of Jesus, drawn from diverse ethnic groups with rich cultural backgrounds, are called by God to work for the Kingdom in this land known as the North East. Moulded by the Spiritual Exercises and the unique Jesuit heritage, we walk in the spirit of frontiersmen lived by our pioneers.

Among our people we discern a deep yearning for: growing maturity in faith; the ongoing encounter of the cultures with the Gospel; relevant and transforming education; ethnic reconciliation and peace; the restoration of God’s creation; ecological and climate justice; socio economic equality and freedom from the ill-effects of liberalization; building up of well-knit families and human communities; the preservation of their ethnic identity and cultural traditions.

As members of the universal Society, being aware that our people are part of the global community, we respond to these aspirations and we make them our apostolic priorities. We incarnate them in all our ministries, in the spirit of the Magis, as joyful Jesuit communities on mission, adopting the Ignatian way of proceeding, through constant discernment, respecting the principles of subsidiarity and delegation, and collaborating with others committed to the same cause of building up the Kingdom.

Formed and rooted in the Spiritual Exercises we discern our apostolic mission in the rapidly changing world of North East India to nurture inclusive and vibrant communities founded on indigenous values and enriched by the Gospel.

We resolve to be witnesses of God’s Kingdom in collaboration with people of good will by listening attentively to the Spirit speaking to us in the struggles of our people to protect their culture, identity and livelihood consciously aware of the anguished cry of the vulnerable, the youth and Mother Earth while also resisting the forces of fundamentalism in all its forms.
