The Kohima Jesuits, as we are known today, are involved in educational, pastoral and social ministries. We presently run two undergraduate colleges, one teacher training college, three higher secondary schools, ten high schools and a large number of primary schools. We also serve in ten parishes in different dioceses of Northeast India. Some Jesuits are involved full time in retreat ministry and Ignatian spirituality. We also run a wide network of self-help groups helping people, especially women, to empower themselves.
The North Eastern Research Center in Guwahati has for over a decade now, been taking up studies on tribal issues while the Legal Center for Human Rights which is also in Guwahati, works to provide legal support to the underprivileged. The newly formed language Institute in Guwahati is focused on preserving the language and culture of the people of the Northeast. With the help of many women religious, we also run a number of health centers where we provide first aid and basic medical care to people in remote villages of Northeast India.
The young men that join us need a good training if they have to be selfless workers in the vineyard of the Lord. Hence, we have various formation houses that mould them to be the Jesuits you see.
