About Melvil Pereira, S.J.

Rev. Fr Melvil Pereira SJ was appointed Regional Superior of the Kohima Jesuit Region on April 12, 2018. He served as the Superior of Jagriti Jesuit Community at Guwahati and the Director of North Eastern Social Research Centre, (NESRC) Guwahati. Born in Venoor in Mangalore on 29 March 1969 to a large family, Melvil joined the Society on 10 July 1986 at Mt. St. Joseph, Bangalore after his PUC at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. He did his B.A. in Political Science at Karnataka University, Dharwad and Bachelors in Philosophy at Satya Nilayam, Chennai. He did his Masters in Political Science at Mangalore University and proceeded to Nagaland for regency at Nazareth School, Pfutsero for the first year and Sacred Heart School, Chizami for the second year. After completing his Bachelors in Theology at Vidyajyoti, Delhi, he was ordained in Fatima Retreat House, Mangalore, on 27 December 2002.

After his Pastoral year at Jakhama, Nagaland, he was appointed as the Research Associate at NESRC at Guwahati. He did his Tertianship at Arrupe House, Kandy in 2010 and pronounced the final vows in the Society of Jesus at Jesuit House Guwahati in 2011. Melvil did his doctoral studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University at New Delhi in 2006 to 2009 being at Indian Social Institute. He did his postdoctoral studies at Creighton University, Omaha, USA. He served as the Region Consultor for three years.
